The biggest
roman buildings in Emerita Augusta (Mérida) were constructed using granitic
rocks. Near Mérida there are several granite quarries from which romans
extracted the building materials for the architectural structures of the city.
Workers
used strong chisels that were nailed in the fissures of the rocks.
Despite the extraction of stones were conducted
two thousand years ago, nowadays we can see the printings of work in the
quarries.
In the granitic
area at north of Mérida there are other evidences of roman works that can be
observed.
